Speaking at the Scottish Renewables onshore wind conference in Glasgow, energy minister Fergus Ewing said that the new standardised approach to measuring the carbon footprint of wind farms would help streamline planning processes and maximise emissions savings.

Cùng với hợp đồng xây dựng cánh đồng phong năng ở khắp Ireland trị giá 1.5 tỉ euro kí kết với hãng phát triển cánh đồng phong năng Mainstream Renewable Power trong 5 năm tới, nhà sản xuất tuabin lớn nhất Trung Quốc Sinovel Wind Group vừa có một bước tiến lớn vào thị trường châu Âu vốn đang bị thống trị bởi các nhà sản xuất nội địa.

Adobe Systems Inc. procured about 75 percent or 54 GWh of renewable energy-based electricity in 2010. Deutsche Bank and News Corp. procured 67 percent and 65 percent, respectively, of their electricity consumption from renewable energy sources while Starbucks and Nokia met 58 percent and 46 percent, respectively, of their energy consumption from renewable energy-based electricity.

Despite widespread rumors in North America that Germany was abandoning its system of Advanced Renewable Tariffs, the country's upper chamber of parliament, the Bundesrat, approved the latest revision of its pioneering Renewable Energy Sources Act on July 8.

Leading television company Sky opened the doors to its new, state-of-the-art production facility in London earlier this week, which is being hailed as the most sustainable broadcasting facility in Europe.

The test cell exceeds the previous record of 16.7 percent for a solar cell made of cadmium-telluride set by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in 2001.

Bất chấp những tin đồn đang lan rộng ở Bắc Mỹ là Đức đang dỡ bỏ hệ thống giá điện năng lượng tái tạo tiên tiến (Advanced Renewable Tariffs), ngày 8/7, Thượng viện liên bang Đức đã thông qua bản sửa đổi mới nhất Luật các nguồn năng lượng tái tạo.

In order to provide Vietnam with new technology solutions that save energy and protect the environment, Hanoi Foreign Affairs Service Center (HAFACEN) has announced the launch of Blue Water Power (BWP) water battery technology of Mishima Company from Japan

Some eco labels have been useful marketing tools, such as for organic food, but will they work for clean power? The wind energy industry thinks so and proposed a program Wednesday to encourage companies to invest in wind and display their eco-friendly cred.

As of 2010, 57% of electricity in Latin America and the Caribbean stems from hydro sources while another 40% comes from thermoelectric power plants using fossil fuels and natural gas. Of the remainder, 2% comes from nuclear stations and 1% from wind, solar and geothermal plants.

Wadebridge in Cornwall has moved another step towards becoming the first solar powered town in the UK, as PV installations begin to go up across the municipality. The area aims to generate at least a third of its electricity from solar and wind power by 2015, which is the equivalent of 15,000MWh a year. By generating renewable energy at this level, Wadebridge will be able to benefit significantly from the UK’s feed-in tariff, enabling significant cash contributions for local community projects.

According to the DOE’s statement, the $25 million it is providing will need to be matched by the winning universities, national labs, private companies or others who apply and are accepted for the program. Initially, the grant recipients are meant to focus on three specific areas, including building energy efficiency, second-generation biofuels and solar energy.

A series of new, larger turbines with longer blades have been launched into the market recently as manufacturers strive to deliver the lowest cost of energy with the next generation of designs. London, UK A trend towards larger capacity turbines with longer blades and larger rotor diameters has been long established, with OEMs continuing to offer existing machines with a range of rotor diameters. But now, a new generation of still larger machines has been unveiled.

The idea is simple, says Kevin Moeller, PhD, and yet it has huge implications. All we are recommending is using photovoltaic cells (clean energy) to power electrochemical reactions (clean chemistry). Moeller is the first to admit this isn't new science. "But we hope to change the way people do this kind of chemistry by making a connection for them between two existing technologies," he says.

Scientists at Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, have further boosted the energy conversion efficiency of flexible solar cells made of copper indium gallium (di)selenide (also known as CIGS) to a new world record of 18.7 percent -- a significant improvement over the previous record of 17.6 percent achieved by the same team in June 2010.

Two months on from the natural disasters that ravaged Japan’s infrastructure and economy, its government has said it is determined to plough forward with efforts in the field of sustainable development through trilateral cooperation. The country has committed to promote the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency to reach sustainable growth in the country as it rebuilds itself, officials said in a statement on Sunday.

Germany is coping without about three quarters of its nuclear power capacity by burning more climate-warming coal, reaping the rewards of renewables investments, and importing more French atomic energy. The shutdown over the weekend of another nuclear plant means almost 16 gigawatts of German nuclear power capacity was offline Monday, with nearly half of the capacity ordered to shut by the government in reaction to the Fukushima nuclear disaster in March.

Efficiency is a problem with today's solar panels; they only collect about 20 percent of available light. Now, a University of Missouri engineer has developed a flexible solar sheet that captures more than 90 percent of available light, and he plans to make prototypes available to consumers within the next five years.

More evidence that clear, strong policies are key to renewable energy development came recently via the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). In a statement issued by the association, some statistics about wind energy growth in the country and the states that lead in wind energy development indicate that areas with strong policy are driving development at an impressive pace.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said on Tuesday that the accident at Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant suggested that there were large gaps in international systems to deal with safety breaches. Ban also announced a high-level international meeting on the issue in New York on September 22 during the UN General Assembly session.
