More than 10,000 products under 15 categories labeled as energy efficient

The Conference of the 5 Year Plan Period of implementing the National Target Programme on Energy Efficiency during the period 2011-2015 was held by Ministry of Industry and Trade in cooperation with the Vietnam Energy Conservation & Energy Efficiency Association.

The Conference of the 5 Year Plan Period of implementing the National Target Programme on Energy Efficiency during the period 2011-2015 was held by Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) in cooperation with the Vietnam Energy Conservation & Energy Efficiency Association (VECEA).

The conference attendants included Mr. Do Duc Quan – Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Energy, Mr. Do Huu Hao – Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Former Vice Minister, Chairman of the Vietnam Conservation & Energy Efficiency Association, Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu – Director General, Department of Science and Technology and Energy Efficiency, General Directorate of Energy, along with other representatives of Departments of Industry and Trade, Industry Development Consultant Centers, Trade Promotion Centers.

At the conference, all participants granted the success of the program in accomplishing its targeted mission and achieving positive results in saving energy.

Delivering the speech on the conference, Mr. Do Huu Hao stated that in addition to a bunch of solutions released to solve the energy shortage situation, the government is encouraging citizens to take action to consume and save energy efficiently. According to the statistics of the Institute of Energy, the level of saved energy reached nearly 6% out of the total of national energy consumption during the phase 2011-2015.

Reporting the results, Mr Trinh Quoc Vu – Director General, Department of Science and technology and Energy Efficiency, General Directorate of Energy noticed that by September 2015, 15 product types of Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) and 10,082 product codes were labeled. The number of energy efficient labeled products such as electric fans, televisions, air-conditioners counted for over 90% of those sold in the market.

The Energy Labeling Program was successfully implemented, which resulted in a positive change in consumers’ purchasing behavior of economical and efficient products. It is estimated to save 10.5% on energy by 2020 and this number will expand to 30% by 2030.
